Title says it all, have cleaned carby, have spark and good compression, will happily run on fill choke, as soon as you go to partial choke it revs up then dies immediately. Carb looked pretty clean, mix is 25 to 1 as suggested, what else can i try?

Have a look at the in-tank fuel filter, on the end of the pickup hose - see if you can suck air through it easily. Apart from accumulated dirt, it is commonplace to get some water in the tank - just a small amount of water can stop fuel going through that filter, while leaving it still looking clean. Check also for splits in the pickup hose, and loose screws or damaged gasket at the carburetor insulator. Those are the most likely causes other than a fault in the carburetor.

Thanks Grumpy and DJ, have checked all of the above, all ok except did notice that the gasket between the carby and the whipper snipper was torn at one point. I thought that i'd adjust the hi/lo carby screws, this got it running in both the partial choke and in the run position, it keeps running if i press the throttle down as soon as i let it go, it dies. I tinkered with the screws but no matter what i did it kept dying as i released the throttle.

Tiger,

In the carby you have a mesh screen try removing that and replace the damaged gasket. Then tune again to see if that fixes your issue.

Thanks Bruce, when you say remove the mesh, do you also mean leave it off and try and run without it?
