I was repairing this victa and after getting her up and running, I had the zip starter cord wrenched out of my hand. I have only experienced this on four strokes when the flywheel key needs replaced. So I checked the key and adjusted the point gap but still it did it again. Any help from you experts on this because I am too old for the pain I am getting from this one. Thanks.

hi cristo , i take it you have the blade plated fitted ?? it acts as a flywheel too and they need the extra weight . it does hurt though huh !
!! bad for the starter also

Thanks vccomm, yep I have the blade plate still fitted. Do you think it might be the pull "zip starter" ? It is that that I repaired originally among other things. But I can't get my head around how it could be the zip starter. Surely there must be someone else who has had a similar problem? The crazy thin gis that I had it starting fine, and running fine until it just decided to do this pull back! (ps: I am now a bit scared of it.LOL.) [Linked Image]

i never heard of the starter causing it no , but maybe someone else has ? plate is tightened up correctly ? i had quite a few thrown away for the same reason ! might look tight but remove plug lead and check it as they do look tight but trying to start is different . didnt annoy the timing when you had it apart too ?
the decomp' is still fitted ? a lot of those had the powerplus on them , not too much higher but a difference if the decompressor isnt fitted

Blade plate loose.

or the key way on the flywheel.

Or the points are way out of whack.

Even if you do or don't have a compressor and a rattle gun, you can take a short length of rope and feed that into the spark plug hole and then wind the piston up against it to do the nut up.
Just take care not to poke the rope out through one of the ports then chomp it with the piston.
