Hey MrCJ, Nice serial...This number would denote a model 4 non Automatic (std). Images will determine if this serial is accurate to your mower. The model 4(std)is the base form of the failed/deleted model 4 automatic (Predicta). Manufacture date should be approx 57/58. Check the model 4 automatic forum on this site and you will find info relevant to your model. Look in popular topics" on the left of screen in the home page.
Regards Mal.

thank you for this info i will upload some photos tomorrow when i get a chance to get some photos its not in the best of condition and is missing a few parts but the bulk of it is there and it turns over and has good compression and also came with a few extra parts but i dont think the pull starter is correct for the mower as it has the newer retractable

No worries, Its a serial we have been looking into carefully as its getting close to the intersection of models. We may also learn a little from your mower also as it falls into a "until recently" unconfirmed and mostly unknown intersecton with victas next model,The model 5 special. Hopefully this proves to be an accurate example. Good luck and enjoy. A few members here at ODK have very concise info regarding the early victas, and are only to happy to assist. Also as stated date of man 57/58 .Just checked and it appears to be an early 58 possibly march or April if it.proves to be original.

Hi MrCJ, what you have is a Model 5 series 3 (no edger groove slot) with an earlie Model 4 engine as Blue has already stated, $20 is a good score, I would say the cowel that is on it now would be the correct one as it has the rubber feet for the petrol tank to sit on, it would have had the rubber strap under the steel band that holds the tank down also, non original wheels, need the white wheels as in your pic with the red hub cap, I would say the starter was from a bit earlier model (probably Model 4 as your motor is) cannot see a lot more I can tell you with those pic's but you got a good score as I (and others) like the look of series 3. so engine year as Blue said 58 Mower 59-60
