Get this guys, today I was exploring under my brother's newly-bought house, and I found a Scott Bonnar 19" Model 47 with a De Luxe 2 Stroke electric engine! How cool is that? It's fully functional; me and my older brother started up a generator and plugged it in that, so we won't blow the powerboard of the house, and I swear, it was louder than the generator! It's also in great condition; the decades of dusts stopped the weathering! Here's some pictures, and the specifications of the electric engine:

Amps: 3.6
Volts: 240
Electrical flow: Alternating current
Rating: Con (what is this, may I ask?)
Serial number: I can't make out the serial number. Can someone help?

As you can see, the motor's made by Mercury Electrical Products, Pty. Ltd., in Sydney, NSW. I'm gonna add some more pictures in the following replies. Tell me what you think, beloved community!

congrats

What a great find! I wonder if it originally had a 2 stroke petrol engine and has been converted to electric? Definitely very unique, well done.

Yes, there's a lever that opens up the rear chute, but the bolts are a bit rusted up; no worries, a wire brush and some WD-40 will do the trick.

Thank you! I wonder how much it'll go for on eBay if I spruce it up, you know, do a bit of restoration.

The "Con" rating means continuous duty. However bear in mind that it only consumes 1.15 horsepower of electricity, and those commutator motors are not efficient, so it is only about a 3/4 hp mower: don't expect it to handle anything but light trimming if the grass is dense. It may be a home conversion from a 2 stroke engine, I can't imagine why anyone would build a 3/4 hp electric mower with a 19" cut, except for largely ceremonial purposes like the battery mowers that are sold currently. I recall some commutator motor electric mowers from the early 1950s, but they were only 12" (and pretty useless anyway).

Hi electrosharkskin, and a warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have you aboard. grin
Your machine is interesting in that it started life as a Scott Bonnar Model 47 with a Model 201, 2 stroke engine. These machines were first introduced on the 1st August 1964 and manufactured at the Thebarton factory in South Australia.
At some stage, a previous tenant has replaced the 2 stroke with the electric motor which would not (in my opinion) have performed its grass cutting duties as well as the petrol engine.
Various other modifications are not original, but all in all, make for an interesting machine, though not as a collectors piece. wink
Once again electrosharkskin, :welcome: to OutdoorKing.
