Hey all have a super 24 here at the moment.
ive just fully rebuilt the engine new points condenser , decomp rebuild , bearings seals rings , the usual done it heaps of times but the carby is playing up big time,
it seems to be rich and hard to start once going it idols and runs well but , i cant seem to get any adjustment normally you can adjust the fitting in the cowl to get more or less revs it doesn't make any difference and even different spring sets show no difference ? what the hell is going on ? i know the engine is fine because the old motor had the same issues ? ive never really had an issue with the G4's but there seems no logic behind this issue. what position is the poppit valve ment to be in, as the carb is off a power torque with the different markings?. diaphram is fine. could a dodgy primer cap cause this ? i know they cause hard starting if the bulb is perished ect. BAH !!! cheers mitch

If the primer cap is a non genuine one or warped they can get very rich. Pull the vacuum hose from the cowling and blow on it gently to open the poppet falve up and see if the revs increase, the valve should be set to C

Hey Joe , Was hoping you would pop up here ! i haven't replaced the cap ill drop in to the mower joint tomorrow and get one. i did the blow check on the vacuum hose got no change at all , normally the issue is revving uncontrollably , but this one just needs a little more top speed but it just wont respond. i blew out the fitting on the cowl in case it was blocked. also checked that the poppet valve moves freely .
Whats the other setting for ? curious now i remember reading about it once but cant remember now . cheers, mitch

Quick thought, not all G4's have the poppet valve with the A B C marked on them. Some had a black poppet valve which was the same no matter which way they are turned/fitted. The Victa manual I have says that these are not interchangeable. Maybe you have a bitza carb with incompatible parts.
