hi everyone. i know that the sheerline models are categorized as model 6 and model 9, but which is which. i am finding conflicting data on the subject re: the cowling shape.my question is ? .is the model 6 the boxy cowling with tank on top and the 9 the tank in the front, or is it the other way around.the reason i ask is i have seen on this site both shapes called the same model number so did they both have either cowls?? hope that makes sense to someone. and the next thing is the slotted bases. which has them, which doesnt? ive seen pics of both types having edger slots and no edger slots.. cheers bazz. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2013/05/full-5742-10746-1921.jpg)

Model 9 is on the left with the tank at the front and should have the groove in the base

Hi gizmo that info Tomo has told you is incorrect in my photo at the top is Model 6 Sherrline is on the left. Can check with http://www.vintagemowers.net/Victa_Sheerline.phpThe Model 9 Sheerline is on the right. The first model produced was the model 6 and come out with the edger slot on the carby side. The Model 9 didn't have the edger slot.

That book was printed in 1971.There is speculation that there was a printing fault in that issue.I have two copy's of that green and the one that was printed in 1969 isn't like that at all. Also if you see the sales brochure from when the Sheerline was first on sale you will see that the one I'm saying is the Model 6 was on that.I have a few Sheerline's here and dates that are on the engines does support this theory.

Well that just means more investigation is needed as on VM and other collectors of these say its the other way around. I will do some more searching and see what I come up with. I will talk to the guru and see what he says.

good one vccomm. yes that looks nice brand new. the advert says its the all new victa sheerline. doesnt really make it clear if its the first sheerline though. although it seems to suggest that.i like the shape of the longer cowl. maybe it was superceded cos it wasnt as functional as the top tank design which is on a lot of the other models etc like the utilitys and consuls etc. why i think that maybe it is the 2nd model, a design change that didnt work as well?. just speculating though.

Ok guys,so what is the final conclusion on the Sheerline? Another fact that may support the the current model 6 as correct may be the use of the edger slot...maybee he wanted to give it one more go? Or maybee the sheerline was designed during the run of the model 5 when the groove cover was still a possibilty. It was very common for manufactureres to design years before release, this is very true for cars.
My point is the groove cover was deleted on the model 5 leaving the next model blank. So would it not stand to reason this being the same for the sheerline? Im still of the opinion that the way we know them is the way they are meant to be,especially when the "Sure start" Impulse was a later more modern starter than the Recoil. Anyways just food for thought.
The main reason Im commenting is my sheerline has the edger base but earlier tank on cowl style with the sure start" I was also of the understanding that they came without the edger slot? BUT Ive seen in this post reference to another member having both styles,AND the man I bought it from had it since new...So How to Proceed? I have all of the information you all have but still,to many discrepencies.
I want this sheerline to be accurate....All opinions and assumptions will be appreciated.
Also my engine number appears to be that of a model 6,not 9 was this old fella a little senile and it had its base changed at some point? lols. Do I need to just find a NON edger groove base, just to be sure. I thought I had the sheerline info pretty much under control, but little things keep coming up to alter general concensus...I just want this Resto 100% accurate. So simply...DID the sheerline we know as 9,come with either base style?
