In the threads we have here, people have used a good-quality contact cement. Just follow the instructions that come with the glue, and keep the surfaces (cork and clutch) clean.

i used a contact adhesive, i think it was bondstick or selleys, worked quite well. just dont get in on the paint as it will eat right through it.

Does anyone know if glue was used when new?
Reason I ask is I stripped my Diplomat down to renew a slipping clutch and there was no evidence of glue residue so replaced the cork without glue and it works fine.
Since then I have helped 2 people strip their Diplomats and no evidence of glue residue either.

I'd say that the cork was like a sticker when new and all they did at the factory was pull off the backing paper and apply the cork into the correct position. That's the ease of production.

Cheers,
Marty

Hi to All,
I can say that back in the early 1960's, (in my opinion) that they didn't have cork with a peel off backing, used in their clutches....I believe that it used a very thin smear of contact cement to secure the cork lining. This is what I have used in my Scotty 45, and has worked a treat for over 25 years....As I have said, this is just my opinion. wink
cheers2
