This is a plea for some enlightenment. My father-in-law, bless his cotton socks, is a Kiwi (Poor bugger) and insists that Masport produced the world's first rotary mower in New Zealand (of all places) way back in the dim dark ages. I used to smile knowingly and wink at my wife thinking the old boy was just winding me up. Well, I've put up with it now for 33 years and believe me it's starting to get on my wick. I have now realised that the old coot really believes what he says. I'm also beginning to have doubts because his conviction is so strong. Can anybody out there in lawnmower land give me some concrete facts and dates regarding the sale of the first Victa and also the first Masport? We've agreed that if Victa was first I will get my lawns mown free for the rest of his life and if it goes the other way and Masport was first, I'll mow his for the rest of his life. If it so happens that some Yank sold the first mower, we have decided to call a truce and if he ever mentions Masport again, so help me, I'll pee on his lettuces!
