have a loud rattle coming from the cutter deck on my cox compact tractor. it`s only there when driving forward or sitting still, put it in reverse & the noise dissapears.

hoping some of the knoweldgeable folk on here can point me in the direction of what to look for.

cheers
jason

If the rattle only happens when the deck is right down, check the leading edge of the cutter deck for any loose steel. Sometimes, on early cox decks (with a square top edge), the skirt can break free on the leading edge. If this happens and it's dragging on the ground, it can move into contact with the blades.

Surprisingly, a drive clutch problem can also cause deck vibrations. Do you have to move the pedal forward a long way before the machine drives? If so, send some pics of the clutch system.

You can be part of the problem.....or part of the solution.

Hi Jason,

Trace your drive belts to your cutting deck. I would imagine you have warn bearings on the forward drive clutch/pulley. Replace pulley and everything should be fine.

thanks for the reply, don`t need to move the pedal far at all for the mower to drive.

i will check the front edge of the deck
