I have a tecumseh engine mounted on a Victa Imperial Barrel mower.

Model: HK25

Spec. No. K1033

Ser. No. 92517707

I recently installed a new coil and the engine starts OK but won't run under load requiring more throttle.
I suspected the points, pulled them out, resurfaced them, then put them back.

I can see how to adjust the points gap and advance/retard while I have the flywheel etc removed,

but when it is re-assembled, there is no access. The cowling, starting reel and fuel tank all need to be removed to

access the points etc then have to be re-assembled to run the engine. The flywheel/magneto completely hides the points etc.

My problem is, how do I set the points to operate at the correct angle before TDC?

Welcome to Outdoorking. The procedure for setting Kirby Lauson ignition timing correctly, which is quite awkward, is described in detail in this thread:
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...=7230&Words=timing&Search=true#Post37761

Refer specifically to Post # 37757. While you are there you might like to read the whole thread. Mr. Bonnar did an exemplary job of documenting a full overhaul of the engine, including sourcing of replacement components, and their prices.

Thanks for the info.
I was able to use the instructions and successfully got the engine operating.
Not havng a dial gauge I was able to use the depth gauge function of an ordinary Vernier caliper to set the piston at 6 degrees BTC.

Thank you for bringing us up to date - I'm glad you have set the ignition timing correctly and got the engine operating.

Since this thread is now complete, I will close it. If anyone needs to post to it, just PM a moderator.
