I recently tryed to overhaul my motor. When i took it apart the cylinder wall was scored up. I took it to a machine shop and they reamed it out to 30 thow over size. i put a new piston in it and because this is not the first tim i did this job i cleand every thing up and put it all back to-gether again.Timed it properly made sure the slinger was lined up the sump went on easy and every thing seemed o.k. It run good for about an hr.or maybe two then i stoped it for a break. When i tried to start it again it turned 3or4 times over than seazed up. So i took it apart again the piston was seazed in the wall. there was a ridge in the wall.I honed the wall out cleaned everything and put it all back to-grther again. It did exacly the same thing. Can any one shed some light on this problem .Its 19407 4017-01 I have done a few of these before.
Thanking you in advance Ross

ROSS, did this("machine shop")put a "cross hatch finish" on the cylinder walls after boring and honing it? (if so, you will see very fine lines crossing over one another all the way around and from top to bottom) The purpose of this (even though they don`t look like much) is to help keep the cylinder walls lubricated. You said that you cleaned up the parts, were you informed about thoroughly cleaning the "GRIT" from the block? "GRIT" is an abrasive residue left from the honing stones after honing and it MUST BE removed from the entire engine block with a "warm soap and water solution" gasoline or solvents will not remove it. If this is not done, all the time and money put into your work will be wasted (including the engine), because grit is worse than metal shavings. It will mix with the oil and the first time you use it, it will wear the rings and any other moving part down the first time its used. You said it left a "ridge"in the cylinder wall, do mean a (scrape) or a ridge around the top of the cylinder? If it was the latter, it WAS grit . 0.30 o/s is the maximum your engine can be bored. It sounds like you may have to order a (SHORT BLOCK). PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE RESULTS OR IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS I`LL BE HAPPY TO HELP ICAN BE CONTACTED AT mkfarnam@gateway.net or mkfarnam@yahoo/com

Ross,
Did you use a genuine Brigs & Stratton patrs because if you did not that could be part of your problem also did you follow the directions that came with the piston rings as the ring gap should be set at different positions.
