Hey All, just a little info on the BSA Sloper engine I was going on about a few weeks ago, the type found on Ransomes mowers pre-Briggs. Mainly, Norton-Villiers aquired BSA in 1965 and as a result these little motors are more commonly known as a Villiers F-12. They're 120cc, side valve, all alloy and standard with an Amal 379 Carb and Wipac magneto. New old stock parts are still available, especially for the Amal 379. I've got my hands on a comprehensive workshop manual in PDF format which I'm happy to share, only I'm not sure how to post it in the manuals section.

Hi Craig, Good to see that you have a manual for your project. Craig,I am sure the members would like to know where you gleaned the new information on the BSA Sloper. This could be handy for tracking down info on other vintage engines.
Please do not PM me asking for support. Please post your questions in the appropriate forums, as the replies it may receive may help all members, not just the individual member. Kindest Regards, Darryl

Hello All, got the low-down on the Sloper from George Sheads' Villiers Parts site. If you go to the 'contact us' section, there is a really decent selection of pics to help you ID your old English Banger. I've got parts from there too, and while not cheap they are true old new stock....really top quality. The manuals for the Marquis are from Ivor Gregory who runs the UK site 'Old Lawnmower Company'. I got the illustrated parts, operating instructions and detailed workshop manual for the engine as one PDF package sent by e-mail. I've passed this on to Bruce so it will soon be availabe to anyone else tinkering around with a Marquis. I've done a lot of global searching for old workshop manuals recently and believe me the $15 subscription you pay here is an absolute bargain.

I've been searching through the site looking for info on the Sloper engine used on Ransome Marquis mowers and came across this thread. Did the workshop manual get uploaded as I can't see it in the engine manuals download area. Does anyone know?
