Hi all,

This is a small villiers I picked up for a bike project a while back.
I love the curved tank design on this.

I know its the 98cc motor, but what I do not now is what it may have been fuitted to particularly with that tank shape?

many thanks,

Adam.

Beauty! I like the tank, it looks quite art deco in design.

The engine, including the tank, looks the same as the one fitted to a Qualcast lawnmower in the late 1950s. On the one we had the tank was painted orange, though. The tank was fairly universal, it was not only fitted to Villiers engines. If you browse the Outdoorking archives you will find several pictures of the tank on Qualcast mowers and on other British products of the 1950s and perhaps early 1960s. The most recent picture was in the last week or so.

It was also fitted to Austral-Villiers rotaries from the late 50's also. wink

Thanks for the link grumpy, I had a look for it but couldn't find it.... blush
That particular engine did have quite a lot of applications on British and Aussie mowers....I must admit it is a cute fuel tank!! lol

I think it is cute on a compact, inclined-cylinder, horizontal-crankshaft engine Deejay, but on that Austral Villiers with its tall vertical-crankshaft engine I think it just looks silly, rather like it was plastic and had got hot and slumped.

thanks for the great info! I loved the curved tank, and it will look at home on the bike I'm building as the top tube has a similar curve in it smile

Once again, outdoorking is a wealth of knowledge smile
