hey Guys, been a while since i have been on here. I've got an old tecumseh engine on a old Cyclone mower frame and it has the wind up starter on it, my starter has gotten abit sluggish and grinds away when the switch is flicked, is there a bush or something in the starter that would cause this? I forget what model it is i'll get the model number tomorrow.

Cheers Josh

Sounds like either the cup or dog might be worn out.

If you remove the 4 bolts holding it on, and pull the starter off, can you take a picture of the top of the mower without it, and a photo of the underside of the starter, and pop them up here?

Cheers
Ty

i'm pretty sure it has a smooth cup on the motor but i'll check tomorrow, would really like to get it running again as i love using it, cuts the lawn like no other for some reason.

okay i pulled the top off it, the cup has teeth on it and they are still in good nick, no rounding of the edges etc. However i think the problem is in the wind up mechanism itself. My guess is the coil is binding up in it causing the slow recoil. I'm pretty sure i have already pulled it apart and greased it up once before, are they coils still available?
