Dont have any pics, will have to take some.
Neither are assembled and theres crap stacked on them.

A while back a mate of mine picked up a whirlwind shasher at a garage sale for me for $75. I sent it down to Dad, definately a NWS unit. Has a 5.5 OHV honda on it, so i sent it down there for the stationary motor. But the old man being who he is has been using it to slash with.

Same as this one pictured but not self propelled and not mk12 Villiers powered and minus the mudguards.

The deck belt works in the same way except the Deutscher deck slides for engaement.
If i remember right the pulleys are in line on the pull side. I think thats how it works.

Thanks Bob, what sort of price would you be asking, minus any parts that you want. Pretty keen on the rover deck too.

Cheers.

Duetschers or the Whirlwind Greg???

The whirlwind is in use at the moment. Bout the only thing of use on it would be the spindle. Its not a very wide cut, maybe 22 or 23 inches.

Not sure what im doing with the Deutschers. I will have to do something theres a few $$$ invested in em. Was going to make one up out of the two for Dad, but it will be to sell now. Ive got a Greenfields walk behind for Dad now.

I will get some pics and post them up here as its relavant to the topic.
I will have a think and as Grumpy suggested, send you a PM.

Ditto on the Rover deck.

Heres the pics of the Deutschers

The first one. I was thinking chinese but then i bought the Vanguard motor to fix to go on it. Havent got far. Could be a challenge as it was originally a G65 on it and they are a fairly upright motor.

Not that ive had either of these working but from all reports they are a dependable unit.

On the second one theres some bits of RHS that came with it that space up the motor, not shown in the picture, the belt to the deck spindle needs to be in alignment horizontally as well, and that also tensions the drive belt.

The lever on the LHS of the machine slides the deck back and forth, it has an over centre on it to 'lock' it into engagement. The rods that do this are threaded for adjustment.
I would assume that the process is to set the motor up so that the drive belt has the right tension and then adjust the deck to suit.

The pulley on the deck spindle is height adjustable.

I thought with the design of the Whirlwind and the Deutscher above it might work for you.
If you had a few of these to make it might be easier to go with scratch built rather than having to rely on recycling a ride on deck to build each one.

Ok, it's had a facelift....

Had a colour change, as I prefer the red and grey.

It's had a heart transplant as well, used the old engine elsewhere.

It's now an old alloy bore 8hp Briggs, (no idea of codes as the cowl was missing), one I got the remains of but it turned over. I had to fit the top cowl, air filter and carb off an 11hp, (one with adjustable mixture screws), and the recoil starter and starter cup off a 5hp, and the muffler is off a Suzuki 2 stroke.

It was only after I did the mods that I was able to start it, and I must say, it runs well. So I was pretty lucky.

Hi Ty

I am hoping you may be able to assist me. I have been trying to track down Greg, as I also have a Mobilco Ride-on, similar to the one he restored. I am considering a resto in the future and had hoped to be able to connect with him to share info etc.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Greetings Garry,

And welcome to the ODK Forums. If you've seen Greg's Mobilco ride-on resto thread, it's very good for detail pics and assembly how-to's.

Sadly, I have to inform you that Greg is no longer with us. AFAIK he was one of the victims in a horrible triple murder, that occurred in Wedderburn, Victoria in 2014.

I've no idea why his forum profile appears to show a recent login! confused

A Farcebook page he had is still in existence though; https://www.facebook.com/Hardbull-Mowers-Bendigo-201666369971329

Hope you are well.

Very belated thanks for this info - I did not see it at the time and stopped looking soon after.

Very sad situation, by the sounds of it.

I am connected to Cyber Jack now who is sharing his Mobilco wisdom with me. Baby steps ...

Garry
