Thanks for your reply Bruce. Actually there is no plate on it at the moment...id taken it off and was attempting to start it without one on. (just to see if it worked ok)By putting it back on will that really make a difference??? I would never have thought of that one. Why should having no blade plate on make it 'kick back'????

Yes it is Greg I didnt realise that!!
Good news Bruce I put the blade plate back on and the old beast fired up 3rd pull......not bad seeing as its been standing for over 12 months!!
Sadly though the round Zip starter casing is now smashed to bits where the handle 'Pulled back' at speed and struck it. Obviously I cant get one in England.....Hopefully I'm coming back to Australia in the next few months and ill pick one up from an old mower shop somewhere in Syd.
