On return from a recent trip to Dubbo, we stopped to look at an old bus (Double Decker AEC Regent) that we are hoping to purchase and restore as a camper; it was parked out the front of a large shed, near a tractor, with for sale signs.

After showing us the bus, the fella selling it took us into the shed to show us some of his other projects (turns out he restored vehicles as a hobby) he had a second of the same bus, full restored, one of the original fire trucks on the scene when Buckinghams burnt down, a couple of fully restored tractors, a Holden premier, and a number of semi-complete works.
As he took us through, I spotted this old Victa corvette, when I asked him if he restored mowers as well, he said no, and said it had been put in there after dying 12 years ago, and was about to go to the tip, as it did not sell in a recent garage sale, if I wanted it, I could have it for $10. Done!!!

The mower is going to need some extensive work, and I will be replacing the base, as this has a nasty chunk out of it (Im pretty sure I have a base for this in one of the sheds) it does not work, and needs the impulse starter fitted (he had issues and decided a pulley was the most fail safe) its muffler needs a little work too, it appears to have been altered a couple of times, and the carby now connects to a snorkel, while the original front mount air filter is just sitting there disconnected, And the handlebars sit so low that the catcher hook cant link on.

The original catcher is present, and in reasonable condition, the engine turns over, and has compression, and apart from the starter, all the original parts seem to be there.
As I get this project underway, I will keep photos and info coming, I have the original sales brochure and manual, so when complete, this mower will be the full kit (minus box)
Enjoy!

I have two very similar mowers ou the back, one is a corvette 2, has the same catcher but a slightly different base. The other one is a cortina with a very similar base and exactly the same air filter mounted on the engine.

I thought the air filter on the engine was somewhat unusual.

Hi Ty. I have had a look at at my Cortina 2 then tried to compare it to your Corvette 2 now I can't see much different's in the base's.I'll put some pictures here, but it seems very very close.Do you still have the base? As I was thinking maybe I could cut a piece cut out and get it welded into my base to repair it.Have a look and see if you think it's the same.

Very Similar, The difference is the opening on the side of mine.

However i no longer have this base, Unless there is a particular reason to keep them, most bases with this kind of damage go straight to scrap!

Cheers
Ty
