I picked up a very recent Victa 2 stroke with the power torque engine (about 2002 i think) and it has the 4 blade mulch disc. It turns over with good compression, has spark and it all looks in good nick but it has a hell of a kick back with just a light pull!!! I have a few bruised fingers now...ouch. The disc looks stock and I dont think it has been messed with too much (hmmm) and I can't imagine the timing is out (maybe). Where's the best place to start to diagnose whats up with this beast??? frown

VictorVicta,

The problems is that the disc is not secure which causes the kick back. When it is bad it can near pull your shoulder out. cheers2

im not 100% sure but i think the kickback could be caused by a misaligned flywheel im sure if you search the site you will find some info otherwise someone will have helped out by morning anyway.

OK will try tightening the blade disc. It does have new blades on there so it is possible that someone has put on new blades and not tightened up the disc correctly!!!! wink

If the disk has been removed and replaced there is also the possibility that the washer is on upside down. I think that can do it too.

You should be able to establish whether the disk is loose by checking the assembly of the screw and Belleville washer. As sparker said, be sure the washer is on the right way up. If it has been running loose, the thick washer may be slightly eaten away and have to be replaced. If the disk is properly attached, check for a sheared flywheel key causing advanced ignition timing. The two pieces of a sheared key can lock together with the flywheel something like 10 degrees clockwise of where it should be - the amount of advance is determined by the thickness of the key.

Update - had a closer look today. Washer was on correctly but the nut was very loose!!!! I didnt have a large enough socket for my torque wrench so I just tightened it up with a large adjustable spanner - nice and tight. Started first easy pull...no kick back or any other issues!!!! Thanks everyone!! yay
