I'll give it a go for sure!
But in all seriosness, i cant find anything out there that gives me an idea when this engine was made!!
Why cant everyone just put at least the year in there serial numbers?
Cheers Ty

I suppose at least one reason, is the possibility that it will be stuck in some dealer's stock for a couple of years and will then become difficult to sell.

Was that ever an issue, to your knowledge, with Briggs & Stratton?
Cheers Ty

I'm thinking about the car industry in current times, Ty. Manufacturers are required by law to put the year and month of build on the compliance plate, and by April of the following year they are just about giving them away: the annual panic sale. It seems to me that dealers would always prefer it to be difficult for customers to find out when things were built, but easy for them.

They get various types of bulletins from the manufacturers. Most likely some of those would supply, say, a look-up table of serial numbers by year. It could be done any way the manufacturer decided to do it, so long as it wasn't transparent to customers.
