That is the most awesome looking mower I've ever seen. I was looking at Victa twin 500's earlier today thinking the same thing, however this thing trumps them for sure! Where can I find one! Are you going to restore it?

Hi Shedpest and congrats on a great score there mate, what a little ripper!

As you can see on the manufacturers ID plate, the mower was manufactured by L.J. Phillips, in Mentone, Vic. This company commenced trading in the early 1950's and produced many different types of petrol engined scythes and rotaries for different applications. Back in their day, they were considered by some as the Rolls-Royce of rotaries....until sales were overtaken by Victa with the Special 18.....

In the early years, the Villiers engine was preferred and your Midget (Model 3G) was very popular and strong engine.

hello shedpest, if you have a close look at the brochure supplied by deejay you will see the engine supplied on the mower was a villiers model 3G, not a villiers
midget mod. 2 or 3. The specs for the 3G engine are bore= 43mm, stroke =48mm, 70cc capacity and 0.55 HP at 3000 rpm. the midget engine has a 50mm stroke and bore, 98cc and 0.75 HP at 3000 rpm.the 3G has a 14mm spark plug and the midget an
18mm one.the points gap for both engines is 0.012 - 0.015". regards john

My mate who donated it said there might have been a canvas catcher????
This mower was sourced from and old guy in country SA, and after a good degrease it still has the original paint on the exhaust(seems to have done little work in it's time), compression seems good but has no plug lead, points are still there, so shouldn't be too much to get her firing.
Plan is to just get the baby going.
Seems there is quite a bit of laughter around the shed about this lawmmower collecting thing but hey, people keep dropping them off and they are old,stylish and have a motor...and I LOVE it
