Hi All, New to this site but very glad to find you. I was looking up info about fishing off Adelaide for the long weekend and wandered around to here.
I am a gardener/ handyman and have a great collection of yard tools as you can imagine. Some time ago, I was given a Ryobi grass scorpion rct 2800AD by a grateful customer. I have been servicing it and cleaning it up to sell as it is a bit too light for me. Strangely, it also seems to run 'cack-handed' or the opposite direction to what I am used to.
Anyway, in my stupidity, I did not take much notice of the number of turns the H/L screws were adjusted out before I got into it with the spanners. I figured it would be easy to at least get it started again and adjust it up from there but, I am not as clever as I thought after all blush.
I have downloaded the operator's manual but it does'nt go into that much detail. Is there a sort of standard setting that all great mechanics just know?? Or is each carby different?? I won't be lying in bed wondering as it is just a bit of fun and something I would like to learn more about.
Cheers in advance and well done on the list...Cam.

If I knew the make and model of carburetor I might be able to help. For what it is worth, most of those chainsaw-type carburetors use a starting-point for tuning of around 1.5 turns from shut off (all the way in) on both mixture screws, but it varies by about a quarter of a turn, and that amount of error is a lot with those carburetors. You might try 1.25 to 1.5 turns - once you get it running, adjustment is a simple process.

Thanks grumpy, yes, this is about where I started. She will run and then I get her to temp. and set the idle and hi rev. but after switching off and letting it cool, she wants to be a pig and not start or revs sluggish. I will keep playing with it though. Pretty sure the rest of it is okay, diaghrams etc.
Yes, they seem very fussy and 1/4 or 1/8 turn or so seems to change things drastically.
Have fixed cars etc. for years but these small engines are another science altogether.
Cheers...

Bear in mind that the symptoms you are describing are consistent with what happens when the spark plug is past its best days.
