I have a power torque motor that runs well but had a knock at very low RPM. I pulled the pull starter of to have a look and found there is about 1mm of up and down movement in the bottom con rod bearing.

You can see in the pics where the bottom of the con rod as been rubbing in the outside edge of the pull starter alloy case.

I think you need a special puller etc to change the bearing etc assuming that is the only problem. Is it worth it? I do have a spare mower base for this motor to go on, just trying to get an idea of cost?

Check the online store for the bearing HERE as the cost is not expensive. Yes I think it is worth repairing as all you need to do to replace the bearing is place the new bearing against the old one in a vice as well as a piece of tube or socket and then close the vice.

No special tool apart from a vice which most people have.

what are the other bearings like? I would put the ? mark on them if that one is that shagged out

By the way, is that the small kinchrome socket set in the back ground? I have the exact same one.

Ok, thanks Bruce, I might do it up sometime soon. I had a look in my manual and it shows a special tool for undoing the crank pin, is there another way of doing that or do i need the tool?

Good spotting Joe, thats a Kincrome 1/4inch socket set, I use it almost everyday. I leave it out and it saves me having to get my 3/8 socket set or my 1/2 socket set out of the cupboard.

It is a special tool for the old crank locating pins. You might be better to buy a late model pin for the future as I am not sure if we can locate the old style pin remover.

To remove that pin you could use something like a nail punch to release it.

You should check it out some time as we are normally checking to see if anyone is there around 8 to 9 nightly. Easy to see if someone is there just check the site links box on the left of the forum.
