As long as the cone has material still on it to drive the discs it should be ok ,I've heard of people gluing a material to the cone but it doesn't last as long ,I guess something else could be used for a cone but they can be dear.
With the motor it may just be easier to put a $40. ring kit in it.
Bit late Max, I have cut the shaft off the motor so I can get it in the press to get the pulley and cone off. I have put it aside for now as I think about if it is worth progressing with. Everything works fine but would anybody be interested in a 60 year old slasher with a new motor on it. I was thinking a DCM 6.5 hp motor but the 26 inch cut might be a bit much for it. Would be fine for light scrubby stuff but would struggle with heavy undergrowth, all depends on what somebody needs
Yes you may be right Norm about there not being a market for the slasher ,when I sell a refurbished mower for $80. people ring and ask ,does it have 4 blades ,is it a mulcher mower as well ,how old is the mower. Not much point putting a $200. dollar motor on this slasher if it sells for $250.
Slashers are odd things Max, most people buy them because they have to clear some property or the council will fine them big time so they are prepared to pay more than they would for a mower to keep their yard looking nice. Bit more incentive there
