I am trying to work out if the top cap on these carbys is supposed to have a gasket or 'O' of some sort? All the exploded views of the carby I have and Bruce has uploaded shows nothing there but the cap has a grove that looks like it would take something? You would think it would have one otherwise dust will get in! Below is a pic of the cap I am talking about. Thanks ![[Linked Image from i256.photobucket.com]](http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh187/newy1234/Mower/DSC07851.jpg)

Thus you did not need 'O' rings etc to seal and because the engines were made with minimal clearance and you would get a good life from the motor. Also note that the steel was made in Australia (by qualified tradesmen) not by unqualified tradesmen from countries that I am not willing to name. I have equipment over 50 years old that will still out last the machines that are built today. Sorry but have to get off the soap box as I will keep going on and on about the rubbish that is being made these days.

Bruce,
You you are so true in what you say, it makes me feel sick to see the flimsy rubbish that is flooding our shores now. My local mower shop wont even sell Victa mowers anymore because the quality is so poor.
cheers gmax

Bruce, gmax, you're both spot on there guys, they just don't make 'em like they used to; what ever has happened to pride in the workmanship? We seem to be living in a disposable world where planned obsolesence is built into everything we use!!

cheers gmax I won't carry any Victa, Rover Bunnings brand mowers any more because they are all coming from China now. If a customer wants one I just order them in. I have heard that the steel in the Victa mower frames is that week that when you put weight on them the blades hit the frame but I myself have not come across that yet (maybe just a rumour).

I totally agree with everyone, it does still seem unusual to me that Victa did not have a seal of some sort under the cap, due to the conditions lawn mowers are in and keeping dust out of the motor and carby should be a concern. They must have been ok though and good to see.

Australia used to make some of the best steel products in the world. Building engineers relied on the product for quality production. The construction industry in this country has suffered because the foreign producers send back beams that is made with Australian Coal and Iron Ore that is not even square let alone meeting local quality standards.
