Does anyone know which oil to use in an old(probably 50 years old,not really sure) 2 speed masport rota hoe fitted with a bronze wheel and steel worm, I have replaced all seals and bushes, etc I tried calling total, castrol and penrite and I've got different answers every time so any advice here would be most welcome. Thanks

Hi Bob,
as long as the seals hold well enough, engine oil is fine, but if they leak a little next best thing is 00 grease

G'day Bob,

Masport recommend a SAE 140/ISO VG 800 gear oil for their worm drive boxes.

Penrite's Transoil SAE 140 is the easiest of this type to get in small packs, such as garden machinery uses.

As Norm says, NLGI 00 grade semi-fluid grease would work too, and there again Penrite is the go.

Cheers,
Gadge
