Hi all,
I have a 80212-0573-01 engine, sn: 74061003.
I have very excessive runout on the crankshaft flywheel end and am trying to find replacement bushings and how to replace them.
I believe the Pn for the case side (flywheel side) bushing and seal is 796961 but cannot make out a bushing in the output side cover.
I assume there should be one but it looks like aluminium to me and the shaft is a good fit on that end.

Can you gents possibly have a look at the attached pictures and your eyes might be better tuned?
There is some galling on the crankshaft, but its from a rotary hoe. If i can do a repair and get another year out of this engine I will be happy.

I'm also keen to hear your opinion to repair or bin please? I've not done this job before.

Hello jamesobrady,
There's no bush, with the play the flywheel air gap changes and so the spark changes.
I just salvage a few parts, like carb, coil, flywheel......piston conrod rings head.......
It's disposable.
cheers

On IPL the bushing are

PTO (cover plate) bushing is PN 293708

Flywheel (Magneto side) bushing is PN 293708

And the 293708 bushing kit is currently superseded to 796961.

The cover plate aluminum bearing would need to be finished reamed out to 0.8768" - 0.8770". Briggs service manual has it line reaming the bearing out for the bushing installation. (Repairman's Handbook 1919-1981). Please refer to this manual for specific repair procedures.

I 'm unable to the spec of the 19099 counter reamer for cutting the aluminum bearing for the bushing installation as the manual doesn't spec its diameter but you go by the Magneto side measurement once you get its bushing out. And if you would kindly let me know what that measurement is, I will add to my copy of the service manual.

That's interesting AVB, is it a straight forward job, or do you need special tools like a lathe....
cheers

While it would be possible to repair, a quick search found you can still buy the bushings, you would need to find a shop with the reamer, and even more difficult someone who has done it before. That's If the crank cleaned up ok. it would need to be cleaned and polished and measured. if it is under spec you may as well not go any further. not to mention if it has done crank bearings I would be suspect on the rings, bore, conrod etc. as it has obliviously had a lack of lubrication and/or been over revving.

To be brutally honest throw it away. Depending on the hoe, just find another motor. I recently did one for a mate that had the same problems, big play in the crank bearings. He had a Chonda off a pump that bolted straight on and was much easier to start, more powerful and reliable.

These little 3hp's are very common, you may even be able to find a donor engine, they are commonly pulled off reel mowers and sold cheap

Oh and just to clarify, stock the bearing journal is a machined part of the crankcase both sides, to repair you have to machine/ream out the worn bearing to press fit in a bushing to fill the gap
