The
Scott Bonnar Model 65 was the last commercial reel mower
design by Scott Bonnar. It presents as a modernised version
of the
Model 16 Queen, introduced in about 1950.
The Model 65 was designed and marketed as being
“For Contractors,
Municipal Bodies & Government Departments.”It was a real surprise when I recently found a brochure that said
that the Model 65 took on a
new role – a mower for
“golf greens,
cricket wickets, bowling greens, tennis courts, and croquet greens,
where a fine playing surface is required.”In other words, The Model 65 became the replacement for the

My best guess is that this role change occurred when SB was part of
New Zealand’s
Challenge Corporation. We are talking mid-to-late 1970s.
