Need one of these to resurrect my old VICTA Silver Streak. Searches have revealed it to be a discontinued product. If you have a used one of these lying around in the workshop, would love to take it off your hands. Thanks.
Hi Mister, welcome here, we try to help. Are you sure it is the coil, they very rarely fail, but the ignition modules do fail. Have you removed the cap and screwed the screw in a bit further, they can get corrosion in the screw and this will stop it sparking. As for being discontinued I sure hope so because I have probably a hundred of them and that means mine will be going up in value. If it is your coil, drive around your local suburbs and you will probably find a Powertorque dumped on the nature strip and it will have a good coil in it
Thanks for the prompt reply, Norm. You mentioned the ignition module - is this somewhere else on the motor? Will I find it by tracing the wires back from the coil?
Thanks for the info, Gadge. I checked the EI module as Norm suggested. It's a sealed unit with no user-serviceable parts it seems. I cleaned all the contacts, remounted the EI module, re-installed the coil with correct flywheel clearance. Still no spark. Looks like I'll opt for the ODK unit you mentioned. The rest of the motor is in excellent nick for its age - smooth bore, no lip, minimal piston slap. Probably worth spending the $60+. Will post results here. Thanks again.
Before you go discarding the coil; when these fail, it's usually by one of the windings going open circuit.
This can be easily checked with a conventional multimeter on your unit [as it has the external EI module], if you have or can borrow one.
The primary winding resistance is measured across the two tag terminals on the coil - should be around 0.3 ohm.
The secondary resistance is measured between the spark plug connector and one of the tag terminals - it should be about the same from either tag terminal; around 6-10k ohm.
Cheers, Gadge

MM, My money is on the module, very rare for the coil to fail. Make sure you have screwed the screw in the end of the plug lead, these do play up, Screw it in a couple of turns. If it is the module you can grab one off another powertorque (millions of those out there, even try the local tip shop) or a new module from ebay is about $20
Hi folks, Have tested the coil with a multimeter. Open circuit between the spark plug lead and either tag. The primary winding is within tolerances. Looks like I need a new coil Thanks for all the help so far. Cheers.
One final check can be done, as there's now nothing to lose.
The spark plug lead, at the coil end, will likely be screwed onto a 'self-tapper type threaded' fixed pin. See if you can unscrew it, and do a final secondary resistance check, between that pin and the tag/s.
Cheers, Gadge

Hi all, I received the replacement coil from ODK and fitted it. Because the new coil had a built-in CDI unit, one of the wires running to the old coil was redundant, so I snipped it. The mower is running again. Thanks for all your help and advice. If I can get one more summer out of it, I'll be happy.
If you look after it you should be able to get a lifetime out of it. Just keep an eye out for another good rust free body because that is the only weak part on these mowers. Should be able to get another 40/50 years out of the motor as long as it doesn't get straight fueled. And hang onto that ignition module as you might need it in 30 years or so, they might be hard to come bye one day.
Hello everybody, The three Hs when it comes to the Victa two stroke. Hoard, hoard and hoard. Just for good measure Imo say it once more to get it to sink in, hoard!
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
