Hi All,

Lots of GXV160 threads in here, I suspect a lawn contractors around - home user myself have a Honda HUT216 utility with a GXV160 on it - currently having to muscle that around - but also trying to fix up a Masport 800ST that had a GXV160 with a factory fitted snorkel airfilter.

This was a 2nd hand unit, had 2 airfilters fitted both the normal GXV160 big filter and then also the long Victa airfilter in the snorkel. The HUT216 just had the single normal filter.

As I wasn't using the Masport I moved the airfilters (as it's all in one piece) over to the HUT216 and the single airfilter setup back to the Masport while its trying to be repaired.

1) Should I run both airfilters (the stock Honda one & the long Victa one) on the now snorkel fitted HUT216? Thats how the Masport came but who knows if they knew what they were doing.

2) Do I have to do anything to either carb before using them with the changed airfilter setup? If so what (roughly).

3) Or is using a snorkel airfilter for a utility mower little benefit and just switch back to how it was?

The Honda's stock filter seems leaps ahead in quality over the knockoff Victa one - but one might say the latter is drawing air from a better position. I've used the HUT216 with both filters attached and it doesn't seem to have any issues from it - RPMs seem about what they should be at stock governor levels.

Thanks in advance for thoughts.

Pull the spark plug after a good run and see what it's like.

I'd just leave it - maybe a slight idle mixture lean out

Run both filters - at least the cheap victa filter will help preserve the more costly honda one.

I've got a gxv120 on a big bob chassis (near identical to the honda deck) and it certainly chews the grass well

I'm not sure where they come from but I have seen the Hondas fitted with the snorkel so it is not a one off.
