I was given this today , with a carb problem, looking forward to mowing with it....
He said it had done some work, but it hasn't finished yet.................

And a Homelight trimmer with a broken throttle handle, maybe an easy fix.......
It will be a good combo....

Very nice score speedy

I mowed with my newly assembled one (HRU19D deck with V40 chonda engine 4 blade) yesterday and they certainly are a lovely mower - boring but good.

And, it cost me under $20 (blades, filter, oil) - even better.

The old thin homelite throttle handles can be weak - the later yellow or red ryobi wide type are much stronger

Shame you aren't over in WA, I think I have about 5 of those black thin throttle levers floating around somewhere

Thanks Tyler,
I don't know what motor it has, thought it would be Honda...
I'll water blast them both...
I'll make a poly handle for Homelight out of a white cutting board.
cheers

Hi Speedy,

It's a GXV-160 overhead valve / push rod engine that's fitted. Probably Honda's most successful engine and the one that all the Contractors prefer to use.

Those things are fully serviceable opposed to the GCV-160 which has the overhead cam set up and is a bit of a troublesome unit.

If it has carby issues then that's easily overcome and thus you'll have a good machine that's well worth saving longterm. The Honda Chassis's are pretty much the best out there apart from the Greenfield Enduro's which are loosely similar to the Honda concept.

Cheers,
BB.

And another thing you will notice is Honda don't fit bar blades, Honda know how to build a commercial mower

Definitely GXV all the way

Mine is just a bitsa I made - honda deck (originally gcv) with a victa engine off a rusty deck. Yours is definitely the real mccoy.

Norm, Honda are fitting bars on some models unfortunately

Criminals!!

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi Tyler.
I'm guessing that if Honda are using bar blades it will only be on their cheap end consumer models that are not a lot better than the Chondas

Yes Norm mostly consumer models, but I seem to remember some of there older commercial models had them aswell - don't deal with Honda much so not that sure

Hi Tyler,
Quite possibly but I doubt Honda would have done it, what I think is probably the case, a mower manufacturer buys Honda motors to fit to their mowers and they fit the bar blade

I cleaned it up, took throttle cable off and soaking some oil into it to loosen it and save prob $25...
Sharpened the 4 blades, nearly worn out ... used easy start and bodgied the carb with a piece of wire..
Mowed the front lawn inn spitting rain...... I set the throttle at 75% power....
It worked well, so it's worth fixing the cable and keeping or selling.......
The Hondas are made so solid , bases wheels, levers....
cheers

The one thing that is really cheap and nasty is the height adjuster which are just made of average sheet metal and bend so easily. Love the Masport levers much better.

I couldn't free the inner cable........
So I just put a Briggs & Statton cable on, drilled a small hole in the carb lever. The throttle lever had to be placed a bit lower, but I don't change throttle settings much while mowing.
Works well.
With rain and warm weather up here, I had to mow front lawn again with my new Honda....
cheers

I mowed a big thick lawn this morning, WOW............ It did the job, so I thought I'd keep this one.
But a fellow turned up and wanted it,,, ,,so it's gone.
Nice while it lasted.
