So the small bowl and pickup is not a priming tube
.
Hello nath and powerclocks
Many thanks nath for the technical information.
You explained this very nicely. Thank you.

I better clarify my comments then...
It is not incorrect to say the pulsa-jet has a priming function;
in the same way that a fuel pump has one.

Another understanding of priming is that a primer
injects a fuel charge into the cylinder. I did not mean that here.

'Priming' is just a word signifying 'getting ready or being prepared'.

When I worked for Briggs & Stratton I would always differentiate
the two meanings about 'priming'.

The old 'ticklers' on vacu-jet carbies [like the old Victas] primed
the carby, but did not prime the cylinder. The understanding was that
a primed carby was more likely to start than one lacking fuel.

The Briggs Pulsa-jets avoided the problems of a totally vacuum-drawn
mixture, and the issues associated with half-empty, or near-empty fuel tanks.

It is for this reason that Vacu-jet carbies always had smaller tanks!
By providing a constant fuel level, Pulsa-jets were always primed
to do their job. Brilliant!

SENIOR TECHNICIAN & HISTORIAN
Gidday all,

Briggs and Stratton must have spent a long time in carburetor research and development, they had a
few different ideas about priming a carburetor.

Cheers
Max.
