Hi AVB, I meant their term 'appliance with combustion engine'. I too have used a pump vacuum extractor - just tilt the mower as much as possible out

Doesn't work quite as well with some of the GC & GX engined edgers where the frame obscures the fill point though

Just to let you know I fixed the surging problem. It wasn't valves and I never did end up taking the cover off. In the end, a new set of carburettor gaskets fixed the problem.

Hi Sparker,

Generally surging or hunting as it's sometimes known as is commonly related to air leakage which will force the governor back and forth.

I guess most of us felt that due to you doing multiple carby removals & installs then that part of it was sound and not causing issues, how wrong we can sometimes be without having the actual item in front of us to physically look at and touch. It will catch the most experienced out from time to time. As I always say, wherever there's an assumption there generally a screw up. I normally substitute the "screw up" word for something else. I'm sure you'll know what that word is.

Anyway glad the issue has been solved with no major outlay.

Cheers,
BB.

PS. Maybe you might want to solve my GCV-160 issues LOL !

Hi Bonnar_Bloke,

The problem with the GCV's and other Hondas' is that damned bolt system to mount all the gaskets and the carburettor is a time wasting procedure. I cleaned the carby several times and replaced it once and each time I had to thread about 6 gaskets, air guides etc. In the end some of them were in pretty bad shape. I got frustrated and ended up replacing those bolts with the rods from a wrecked chonda. A much better system of mounting all the gaskets.

Hi Sparker the Chonda is a much better setup, how Honda continued to use that dumb way of doing things beggars belief. Only difficult bit with the Chonda is that you have to have one stud removed so you can connect the governor rod but at least you have all the insane gaskets and spacers in the correct order and getting the second stud back in is pretty easy

Yes Norm. As you say the order of the gaskets is important too or the engine is not happy.
