Hi there toroman, A warm welcome back to the site. Mate it looks like you've been struck by the "Big Black Foot". It strikes all of us; particularly when we are tinkering and softly softly trying to remove something delicate with a mallet; be it rubber, wood or metal......snap, chink,or craaaaack is the sound; followed by a stream of expletives flowing from the operator in frustration and anger!!
