Well, never stop believing.
This is a timely reminder that many lawnmowers will have had significant
modification in their life. This is a helpful post Christo.
For me, the issue was never that it was a bitsa; but whether the cowl
or the whole engine was replaced at some point.
Points of note:-
- Rover Red was introduced in stages from 1983 (as Kye said).
- The base is of 1980s or 1990s vintage (as Gadge said).
- Rover never offered a domestic mower that required recoil starting from
the front of the machine.
Points of Regret:-
I do not have enough knowledge to know whether that cowl belongs to that engine.
I do not believe Rover were using 9 Series Briggs engines in the 1960s.
Rover recoil rewinds were used on 10 Series (and above) in the 1960s.
So AVB has precisely summarised the bottom line.
