Was wondering if I put this engine back on again is it possible to rotate the barrel 180 degrees so that the carby ends up on the correct side?
Check the intake spigot. If it doesn't have a carby locating pin at the inboard end [and this one shouldn't], the barrel can be flipped over no problem.
