That's great evidence! Joe was almost spot-on with the issue.
This is, in my view, a
Corvette 4 from 63-64.
The Corvette nameplate has been removed and lost.
The Cortina inherited this base in 64-66 for a simple reason:
the Corvette base was changed to the newer style.
The engine nameplate was most helpful here, and shows how accommodating
Kirbys were in meeting customer requests - Model 16 for Victa; VK30
for Kirby (V = vertical; K = Kirby)
This is a Kirby VK30 - a great little motor, and the most popular
4-stroke domestic rotary engine of the 1960s.
Victa entered the 4-stroke market in 1960 - with their "4-stroke"
and then their "Four Star" on the Sheerline base. Had Victa not
done that, they would have lost serious market ground.
Your machine has the original Corvette base, and one well-worth
saving. Catcher, edging guard, and nameplate needed ...
