I think I am right in saying that, prior to line trimmers, the wire blades were a
'work around' (pun intended); in that they would not damage concrete pathing on
radius bends. Blades, of course, will give a superior finish on straight lines.

The line trimmers were really a revolution (pun intended) in that they offered
the best of both worlds (clean cuts, no damage to pathing, acceptable finish).

Today, blade edgers still have a purpose - for quality finishes to straight edges,
contiguous with pathing. Everything else: the line trimmer is the solution.

All very edgy.
