Latest update:

- Hardened sockets arrived 4 days ago
- Rattle Gun arrived today
- All three mower blade holder retaining nuts have been soaking in penetrating oil for about 2 weeks now

All three mowers have been sitting almost untouched since my last post - only real action is that all three petrol tanks have been soaking in molasses for about 3 weeks now and look like they're coming up quite well.

So....despite the danger of giving me a power tool - I attacked the nut that holds on the the blade holder.

Just to see if the penetrating oil has made any difference I first attacked them with a socket and breaker bar - still not budging - so it was down to the new toy (rattle gun)

For those of you who are reading this to laugh yourselves silly at me breaking the mowers - SHAME!!! sick

Attached the socket to the rattle gun - plugged in the rattle gun (it's electric - 240v - to be honest - I've never seen or heard of an electric one before) - put the mower up on the bench - hold blade holder with left hand, rattle gun with right hand - pull trigger......

Almighty noise for 2 or 3 seconds......

Panic!! Release trigger!!!

Take off rattle gun - WTF??!?!? What happened?

Before I really knew what was going on, the mower fell over, the blade holder fell off and after 20 seconds of searching I found the blade holder retaining nut in the socket!!

How easy was that!?!?

Now with the benefit of experience I did the other two as well - how simple was that - no problems, no worries - nuts came off as easy as pie with the rattle gun.....

I should have bought one of these years ago.... (but I will heed all the warnings about doing things up with it - I will only undo - I like doing things up with my manual torque wrench anyway.

I really can't get over how easy it was - and I didn't break anything - and thats gotta be a plus smile

BTW: just picked up a couple of old Stationary Engines:

- JAP Model 5 (needs a cowl if anyone has any leads)
- Lister A Junior - with hopper - (needs a magneto)
- Villiers Model 12 (Aussie Made) x 2
- Villers Model 12 High Speed
- Villers Model 10 - (needs petrol tank...)

BTW: Advice.....now that my Victa 18s have een identified - should continue this thread in the Restoration section??
