Thanks fellas. Grumpy the choke on this version operates off the throttle. Full throttle activates the choke mechanism.

Joe the blower housing does lift off as you mention but the crud is behind the cylinder top cover and the barrel/cylinder shroud.

Hi Scott in reference to the speeds I was looking at the Greenfield site an they say the 2 speeds are lever activated. The earlier ones like mine are altered as you mention. I spoke to a dealer this morning.

I had to remove the cylinder shroud to get rid of the gunk because it was too thick. For the head I just poked some wire down behind and hit it with compressed air. Grumpys suggestion was good but seeing I was working on it I didn't want too much water about.
