Yes it is a strange bit,but that's what I thought it was for as well.Once the handles wear a bit it is hard to stop them from doing it.I guess that was somebodys way of stopping it.I think it would have been easier to do the old alloy can trick.That was the best fix I've seen so far.It worked very well.
