If you can get high quality factory-rebuilt or new heads, delivered in Australia, for under $100, I am inclined to agree that is cheaper than having a dealer recondition your old head. Provided a nominal-size (i.e. same stem diameter as new) exhaust valve actually has more than 0.005" slack in the guide, the only cheaper solution would be to find a junked head with decent valve guides locally.
