any briggs engines after 1982 has electronic ignition and no points. have you checked the gap between the flywheel and the magneto? i may have one out there but i will have to check because they are a bit different to the other Briggs ones. another thing to do is make sure there is a good ground connection between the coil and the block of the motor and that the plug is good.
