Hi aitchey, it's just when you run out of fuel with the old carby it relies on manifold vacuum to prime the carby,
which usually requires a few attempts on the starter cord to start.

The later carby with the primer if it runs out of fuel you just hand prime and start first pull.

With the primer carby I only prime 3 times when cold and none warm with a good engine and it starts
first go ,the older worn engines may require one prime when warm to start easily.

If the primer carby runs out off fuel obviously it can take more than 3 primes to get 3 squirts of fuel
into the carby but you can get a feel for when it squirts fuel into the intake manifold.
