Hi. I have a GV400 engine on an old Masport self-propelled mower/slasher which I recently bought. As a sweetener, the seller gave me a new carby he bought from a 3rd-party source, to replace the existing original one on the Honda.
I did not like the look of the new carby, just not a quality product and nothing like the original.
I decided to fully strip, properly clean and service the original carby, and guess what? Now the engine actually starts after the first pull every time.
BTW, the video in the first post/thread shows that the black insulator/spacer is in between the air cleaner elbow and the carby, but should be in between the carby and the intake elbow to the engine, as shown in the April 1979 Honda Shop Manual on P27.
