The whole thing revolves around the poppet travel, if you look at it from fully closed to fully open the poppet moves less than 3mm and this is what makes the control very touchy and difficult to get a balance. If you don't want to cut the cam, if you just file the hump off the top of the cam this will eliminate the problem cause with cable having to push the lifter up and over it, this will smooth out the operation, never tried it but no reason why it wouldn't work
