Well there you go, I have never taken any notice of the setup before I just rip the starter off, make a plate to cover the bit where the starter bolts on and good to go. I have a pile of starter motors and wiring looms I might have a look at to see if I can see the diode and how it works. I never bother with the electric start as the cost of a battery is an added cost to a mower that I don't need and when the motor is running correctly they are easy to pull start
