I am new to the forum and have just been gifted an old Austral Villiers Everyman mower.

I have already had a look at other posts on this forum which has helped me with a lot already with understanding the mower. I wish to restore it which i am sure will be a fair bit of work however the mower itself is complete which is a good start. I am however missing the catcher. If anyone else has one of these mowers it would be great to get some input into any gremlins they may be able to see from the pictures. I have the third chain which drives the rear roller, it had snapped so i am hoping i can find replacement chains which may fit off a similar mower. I think i have found a gasket kit for the Villiers Mk2 Midget motor (http://www.villiersparts.co.uk/gas.html)but i am sure there will be other bits i will require. The mower had been started and ran about 18months ago but i have not attempted to start it since i got it a few weeks ago. The mower has a lot of surface rust, i am no expert but everything else i think looks structural sound.

Has anybody got a good picture or is able to provide me with some dimensions for the catcher as i will have to get something fabricated and if the clutch is cactus where would i start searching for replacement parts for this? I am laying about 80m2 of lawn in September which i would love to use this mower to take care of.

Any help would be great!

Ryans had a Scooter Department at the factory - so they would have sold
quite a few of those.

What is not explained is the big design difference between your direct
drive rotary and the early belt drive designs. Perhaps yours is a
Speediescythe 16: Light ...

A note on engines.
The belt drives used JAP c80 engines.
In Australia, the first vert shaft Briggs used was an 8 Series,

You can see Speediescythes in the flesh - including one fitted with a Briggs 8 Series.

Yes, that is an early Steelfort Lawnmaster.
They sold in Australia, and had a 'true' dual drive - with independent
clutches for reel and landroll. The downside was the high C.O.G., due
to the large plate clutches being mounted below the engine.

As I understand it, Steelfort is the last NZ mower maker to still
manufacture mowers in NZ.

p.s. a note on the dating of your machine.
I have said it probably belongs to the late 1950s, but I base
that on how AUS rotaries developed.

NZ never had a 'toecutter' base like the Victa and other AUS makes.
NZ residential mowers had safer machines with side skirts. This
may explain the slower development of secondary safety skirts
underneath (that appeared here in the late 1950s). If that is so,
then your machine could easily come from the early 1960s.

I feel the 'SER' is a red herring ...
I think it's 'SER.' - an abbreviation of 'serial number'

The USA produced, I guess, dozens of these 'Big Wheel' mowers,
some - like this one - a copy of the Yazoo drive system.

These Big Wheel designs never caught on in Australia, though
the Yazoo was imported.

Your machine's Tecumseh indicates to me this is a 1970s machine
(possibly a bit later). I think a North American forum might
reveal identification - but I do not think these were sold in AUS.
