Thanks for your reply , very interesting reading. I had no idea that these bases were exported to Australia.

They are reasonably rare over here, I guess most of them have rusted away.

You may be right on the cowling being changed as well
because the air filter cover is alloy.

It seems Victoria is the place for this stuff. Here in NSW there would be a bidding frenzy of they were put on EBay at a realistic price level. All you see up here are the insipid modern steel deck stuff they now want too much for as well. Plus you have the suspected shill bidding going on. An illegal fraud that just goes on unpunished.

Opportunistic scum -tree is no oasis from the trash either with the notorious low balling and other various slimy tactics used by the populace.

Came across these rather neat looking Victa Kits, they consist of air filter, blades with bolts and washers ( a few missing ) and a spark plug. I haven't seen these before.

These are rare machines today, and clearly had limited success then ...
These were the Qualcast Lawnspeeds and Rotor Mowers.

Post-WWII Qualcast lost its way here.
Immediate post-war the power-mower designs were decidedly 'old'.
The pushies were modernised but the AUS machines were their equal.

Qualcast attempted to enter the rotary market here and their first
rotaries were North American inspired, and probably influenced
by the wishes of the UK's parent company.

These designs were way-behind what AUS was doing at this time.
Australia led the field in rotary designs at this time (in my opinion).

In any case, when Qualcast left Australia, the name lived on with

Yes, Turner clearly made the last Qualcast rotaries sold here [at that time].
This is the earliest example I have seen of that venture.

For many reasons, Qualcast had limited success post WWII.
It had been a domestic mower leader - with its push side-wheels
in the inter-war years.

One clear reason - for me - is that Qualcast (UK) did not understand
what was taking place in AUS rotaries at this time.

It sold USA inspired rotaries here in the late 1950s, that were clearly
under-specified for what was happening here! I mean, single-point
height adjusters, catchers, and folding handles were becoming
expectations by the 1960s!

Qualcast Australia's engagement with Turner was a compromise
living on the 'Qualcast brand' and using last-year model Turners.

The idea was doomed to fail, in my view.
The proof lies in the rarity of them, I think.

Victa would re-introduce Qualcast to AUS in the mid-1980s.
Another idea doomed to fail, in my view.
