The cover gives away the date to this manual – the late 1950s.
The black & white images are a great way to understand the Eagles
‘innards’. Note the first use of an optional hydraulic lifting frame
(with all its limitations).

Note the drive pawls were located on the wheel hub of each wheel …
meaning that every unit had to be dis-engaged so as to free-wheel for
transport. On a septuple gang unit that would mean disengaging 14
wheels for transport! Clearly, there were serious limitations to friction-
drive gang units.

This manual is from my collecting and it is in average condition.
As always, I make it available to members for viewing or as a
quality download.

Every reel mower owner knows that a good ‘set’ is critical to
cutting efficiency and reel and bottom blade life – before
backlapping, grinding or replacement is deemed necessary.

The ‘set’ is the relationship (or proximity) between the reel and
the bottom blade. Scott Bonnar clearly stated that there should
only be slight contact between reel and bedknife. Second, they
most correctly described the cutting action of reel mowers as
scissor-like. That is exactly what it is like.

Scissors cut at a single point and this point progresses as the
scissors are closed – just like a rotating reel working against a
fixed blade.

A non-helical reel (aka straight-blade) would require much
higher horsepower and would be totally inefficient. Imagine
setting the thing!That’s part of the brilliance of Budding’s
1830 patent, even if it was borrowed from the textile industry.

This small, foldable, 4-page ‘manual’ probably accompanied
Scott Bonnar domestic models in the 1960s. It is in good
condition and from my collection.

This Parts List covers both the Model 52 and Model 72
and it is in average condition. It dates to about 1980
when the company was Rover-Scott Bonnar.

Whilst these mowers were still being sold under the
Scott Bonnar brand, they were being powered
exclusively by Briggs & Stratton 9 & 11 Series
4-stroke engines.

for viewing or as a quality download.

I can’t offer much at the moment …

Given the life-span of the Model 35, I know of only a few publications
devoted to it. When Scott Bonnar established a ‘rotary-range’, the Model 35
would always play second fiddle, given that it was part of their professional
range. As such, we generally only see Model 35s as a part of a larger brochure
[see above gallery].

I have one leaflet, c1971, when the Model 35 had a dedicated dealer
information sheet for a 10-Series Briggs & Stratton powered variant.

poor-to-average condition. It was probably a dealer’s master
copy [Coles Motors, Colac, Victoria].

A number of Coles Motors' documents have appeared on ODK
