No information has survived on these rare Gardener mowers apart from what is on ODK.

People Who Might Know:

Old Mower Shop Workers: , people who worked in small mower shops in the 1950s and 1960s could be some of the few who remember the Gardener 18, especially if it was sold locally or regionally. It’s possible that even some of the shop owners or repair technicians who handled them might recall specific details, especially if the mower had quirks or was unusual for its time.

Realistically, though, anyone who was actively working in a mower shop in 1960 would likely be at least in their 90s today. So, finding someone with direct knowledge is rare, and even if you do, their memory of obscure models might be a bit hazy.

What has already been exhausted looking for info on this model.

I'm surprised the 2024 SupaSwift is still using a Rover steel base that goes back to around the nineties.

Makes sense that one hole being out as my 2 stroke motor had 2 holes at the back so was assuming the Clinton 4 stroke would also fit.

It's a rear discharge Vulcan Norm ,it's just a little confusing with the Big Bob Images on the top of the page but doesn't matter.

I just noticed the Vulcan has a Pope catcher.

Norm is correct about the starting issue, you can turn the mixture screw on the carby outward to richen the fuel mix.

Hopefully the air cleaner is clean and the mower doesn't have a spark problem.

This Vulcan being a 1979 may not have electronic ignition as I think the Magnetron Ignition came out in 1982 so this mower
may have dirty points .I mostly just fit a later coil on the early briggs motors to eliminate the points.

If no one here is interested in the Vulcan I'm sure it would be snapped up fairly quickly with a Free ad on Gumtree , I
see a lot of people just put items on their nature strip with a sign the reads free and the items disappear.
